About axel:  Past

So, what's with AXEL anyway? Where did he come from, what's his history?

Last son in a large family, Axel survived growing up as a wild, untamed country brat in the sagebrush fields of Idaho. He is now able to hold his own at dinner parties, social gatherings and functions without embarrassing himself or his hosts. You can take the country out of the boy. Still I wouldn't have changed it. Growing up wild has its advantages.

Axel never finished his Bachelors in the Arts. Three classes away, he jumped ship and began living in the real world. It was unfortunate because he really enjoyed being a student. World history became a fascination. Languages came later. Growing up in southern Idaho, it was hard to believe that a vast world was out there with a thousand, thousand different beliefs and ways of expressing ones self. Being gay was not a difficult thing to understand. There was always that something in the back of his mind and he knew ... Coming out at the age of sixteen to friends and family, it took until the age of twenty six before he let the entire world know. When asked about his life, he does not hesitate to use the words boyfriend, significant other, etc.

Seattle is a wonderful city, if not a bit overcast. There are a lot of tolerant and accepting people here, a place where you don't have to worry about a brick up side the head.

This is the erotic artwork from my past, as a horny teen and even into my twenties.

The top two pictures are from photos. Early 80's, I was learning to draw and taking my inspiration from dirty magazines. I loved Jon King!

The last three were also from photographs, picture 3 being my favorite. By that time I had learned to imitate what I could see on the page before me. Learning to use models and draw from my own imagination came next.

After I went to Europe, I learned that all of the great masters had borrowed or stolen from the artists who came before them. If they could do it, so could I!
Here we have pen and ink all the way! Not sure where an 18 year old got this fascination with a dominant type he-man but I thought he was hot.

The two cream colored images were made when I wanted something to go in my living room. Art takes a back seat to what looked good above the sofa.

The last row is where I began to play with the men who would become the men of Axel. Pencil was just not doing it for me though. I finished the last one, the blonde with the chain and that was as close as I could get to what I was looking for using that medium. It took the computer and all the colors and smoothness that I could get to start doing it right.
